ABOUT ME

I am a physician-scientist, formally trained as a gastroenterologist and clinical geneticist, with a doctorate degree in clinical and translational research from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. In 2006, I moved to the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus to lead the Gastrointestinal Clinical and Research Oncology Program. My research has been mainly focused on the molecular epidemiology of gastrointestinal cancer and cancer treatment chemoprevention clinical trials, and has been funded continuously by the NIH and private foundations since 2001. Currently I am the Executive Director of the UPR Comprehensive Cancer Center (UPRCCC) and member of the governing board of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).

As a professor of medicine and biochemistry at the UPR Medical Sciences Campus, Visiting Professor of Surgical Oncologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Visiting Associte Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University I have the opportunity to work with very diverse networks of investigators from various disciplines, students and leaders in health care.  Throughtout my formal training and career as a physician scientist and leader, I beleive in having a vision that will help transform the live of others and ourselves, keeping true to your values and surrounding yourself with people that contribute your own live and vision. I envision a world where science, clinical care and health policy is inclusive and promote a culture of equity, preserving the dignity of human kind.
